Using this service is completely voluntary and confidential. You must be at least 18 years old to complete the Self-Check Quiz.To continue with the Self-Check Quiz, please follow the 3 easy steps below:
Fill out a brief Self-Check Quiz, which takes about 10 minutes.
A VA Chat Responder will review it and leave a personal response for you on this secure website. The Responder's note will offer options for follow-up if it's felt that could be helpful.
You decide what's next. You may enter the online Veterans Chat and continue talking with a Responder with or without identifying yourself. You may want to get a referral to see someone in person. Or, you can decide to do nothing at this time. It's all up to you.No follow-up services will be provided unless you request them.
Emergency Financial Support
USA Cares
USA Cares' mission is to provide post-9/11 military veterans, service members, and their families with emergency financial assistance and post-service skills training to create a foundation for long-term stability. Our services improve the quality of life for veterans and their families and reduce potential factors that can contribute to veteran suicide.
Salute American Heroes
Since 2004, the Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes has provided post 9/11 disabled American veterans with millions of dollars worth of Emergency Financial Aid and support services.
Emergency Financial Aid often covers urgent expenses such as:Utility Bills – Gas, Electric, Water, Internet, Cable, and Phone Service, Mortgage Payments, Rent Payments, Auto Loan Payments, Groceries, and Household Supplies
Hope for the Warriors
The Critical Needs program assists various populations of our military including post-9/11 combat-wounded veterans and their families, post-9/11 homeless veterans, as well as post-9/11 veterans who are survivors of MST as they navigate through long-term recovery.
Hope For The Warriors’ Critical Needs program assists service members, veterans and their families in two specific ways.
Program coordinators provide integrated case management, financial education, with an emphasis on long-term financial stability, and resource referrals that assist the warrior both today and in the future.
If the warrior meets program eligibility criteria, financial support may be provided to assist the family in the short-term.
Red Cross
The American Red Cross offers confidential services to all veterans and their families by connecting them with local, state and national resources through our network of chapters in communities across the United States and offices on military installations worldwide.
Local Red Cross offices develop and maintain relationships with key community partners. Veterans and their families rely on the Red Cross to help them identify their needs and connect them to the most appropriate resources. These vital services range from responding to emergency needs for food, clothing, and shelter, referrals to counseling services (e.g., financial, legal, jobs, mental health), information on veterans cemeteries and burial benefits, and other resources that meet the unique needs of local veterans and their families.
Check In
Connecting veterans with the support and services for brain and mental health they need to live happier, healthier, more successful lives-and to make sure veterans are treated like people, not case numbers, every step of the care journey. Get care for yourself or for a veteran in your life.
